Family Campout March 7-9, '08
Pack 673 will have its annual Pack Family Campout on
March 7th,
8th
& 9th
at Lake Texana.
This is a
Family
Campout which means parents and siblings are strongly
encouraged to make this event. Lake Texana is
approximately an hour and a half drive south of
Houston (see directions below). The park is very
clean and spacious with terrific facilities including
bathrooms, showers, electricity and water. There are
abundant wild life including deer and raccoons plus
fishing at Lake Texana.
We have reserved many campsites with a deposit. In
order to assure enough food for everyone, we need to
receive a commitment from all the families that plan
to attend this event.
Please
inform your Den Leader if you plan to attend and the
number of family members participating. Please fill
out the “Pack Campout Reservation Form” and return it
to your Den Leader before or immediately upon
arriving at Lake Texana. Along with the reservation
form, include a check for the appropriate dollar
amount required for a campsite and cover the cost of
meals on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Make your
check payable to “Pack 673” (not Troop
673).
The official Pack Campout will begin at 1:00 p.m. on
Saturday the 8th
and continue through 10:00 a.m. on Sunday the
9th.
We have many campsites reserved for Friday night so
those who want to can come Friday the
7th
so they may enjoy two nights of camping!
Activities planned for the scouts and children
include den activities, various races, tug-o-war, and
several other fun things. On Saturday night there
will be a special ceremony to graduate our Webelos II
Scouts into Boy Scouts - the Arrow of Light ceremony.
Boy Scout Troop 673 will be camping with us and will
perform this special ceremony. The Pack Leaders with
the help of parents will show their culinary
expertise by cooking everyone dinner (Bear den) on
Saturday and breakfast (Wolf den) on Sunday. Before
dinner, we will celebrate mass.
Enclosed is a list of things to bring for camping.
Your family does not have to bring all items on the
comprehensive list. The Troop has agreed to lend
tents to those families that do not have one. If you
would like to use one of the Scout tents, please
e-mail Mark Coughlin at
coughlin1990@sbcglobal.net.
Please note the following:
-
Scouts should wear Class B uniforms (casual scout dress/pack T-shirt) during campout. Scouts need to bring Class A uniform (formal uniform) for wear during the Pack Ceremony. This is a very special ceremony!
-
Bring your own firewood or plan to buy some nearby.
-
Bring your own food for Friday night, Saturday breakfast and lunch,
-
Bring flashlights
-
Be prepared for any kind of weather (we will still camp in the rain and cold)
